Chapter 11

A Sunday morning Bible class on John 11 that starts with the class supplying its own captions (compassion, "so you may believe," dead man walking) and then settles on the hardest thing in the chapter: why Jesus waits. The teacher moves from the delay to Thomas's "let us go die with him," to both sisters saying "if you had been here," to the Greek behind Jesus' groan, which he takes as anger at what Satan has done rather than impatience with slow faith. It ends with Caiaphas saying more than he knows.
