About this sermon
Class forty-seven of forty-eight in the congregation's walk through Luke picks up at the end of chapter 22 (Jesus seized, the council convening a second time so its verdict would fall in daylight) and follows him through Pilate, Herod and the cross. The recurring question is why Rome executed a man both Pilate and Herod called innocent, and how Luke's Gentile readers were meant to understand that. Named eyewitnesses carry much of the weight: Simon of Cyrene, the centurion, Joseph of Arimathea. The class ends at the sealed tomb.
