Loving God (Mt. 22)

JP Flores takes the lawyer's question in Matthew 22, which commandment is the greatest, and asks why loving God never appears on the list of essentials the church can recite by heart: hear, believe, repent, confess, be baptized. He opens with Jesus asking Peter on the shore whether he loves him more than these, unpacks the Shema word by word out of the Hebrew and Greek, and argues that obedience flows from love rather than producing it.
