New Way To Love

About this sermon

Preached the evening after Valentine's Day, this sermon argues that we are better at singing about love than living it, and that the new life in Christ comes with a new capacity to love. Working through Matthew 5:38-48, the preacher contrasts the old trade, "I will love you if", with a love that says "even if," explains what the forced second mile meant under Roman occupation, and describes how the early church's care for women, children and outsiders startled the ancient world. It lands back in Romans 12 with an assignment: bless someone this week.
